Meta-Memories Blends Cycladic Elements with Modern Design
Meta-Memories, a new residential resort by 314 Architecture Studio, is situated on the idyllic island of Paros in the Cyclades, Greece. The project blends ancient Cycladic architectural elements with modern design to create a tranquil and luxurious retreat. The resort draws inspiration from the traditional architecture of Cycladic ruins, characterized by simplicity, whitewashed buildings, and cubic forms. The minimal design incorporates these elements to create structures that echo the ancient villages’ layout, materials, and connection to the landscape.
Adapting to the island’s inclined terrain, the resort employs a terraced layout. This approach creates multiple levels of living spaces cascading down the slope, providing depth and dimension. Each room is situated on a different level, ensuring all terraces offer breathtaking views and a sense of privacy. Strategically placed large windows and open terraces capture panoramic vistas of the Aegean Sea and the surrounding landscape. This design feature allows guests to enjoy stunning sunrises and sunsets from the comfort of their rooms.
314 Architecture Studio follows an Eco-Friendly design approach
The terraced design thoughtfully divides private and communal spaces. Private rooms and suites are nestled into the hillside, featuring secluded retreats with private balconies or terraces. Communal areas, including lounges, dining spaces, and pools, are positioned to enhance social interaction and enjoyment of the scenic surroundings. The resort is designed to harmoniously blend with its environment. Large windows and open spaces create a sense of openness, connecting guests to the landscape. Terraces provide private outdoor spaces for relaxation, capturing the beauty of the Cycladic scenery. Meta-Memories employs eco-friendly practices and materials, using local stone and wood to create a fluid connection between the built and natural environments. Through this practice, the design team ensures durability and sustainability throughout the resort.
314 Architecture Studio’s design approach weaves together elements from diverse periods and cultures, resulting in a rich tapestry of typologies and design concepts. The focus is on crafting spaces that invite users to engage with contemporary architecture in a novel light, establishing emotional connections with the environment, and recognizing the bonds individuals share with the spaces they inhabit.
The project blends ancient Cycladic architectural elements with modern design to create a tranquil and luxurious retreat.
