Design Over The Norms unveils cork-clad residence in Greece.
Design Over The Norms (dotn) completes the Stealth House, a duplex home perched on a hill near Patras, Greece, designed to blend into its surroundings while offering stunning views of the Ionian Sea. The project’s features include subterranean and ground-floor spaces, with the former providing a cooler, more stable temperature year-round. The design is inspired by the site’s past use for pomegranate and vineyard cultivation, leading to a natural color palette. Cork clads the exterior, a material chosen for its appearance and its eco-friendly properties. A key aspect of the Stealth House’s sustainability strategy is the use of geothermal energy, which supports heating, cooling, potable water supply, and irrigation needs.
Stealth House focuses on privacy becoming almost invisible
The Stealth House’s design by dotn focuses on privacy and unobtrusiveness, akin to the stealth technology of aircraft, making it nearly invisible from above. Each of the duplex’s two identical units offers a private living space, accommodating up to six people in three bedrooms. Two bedrooms and the communal areas are located underground, while the master bedroom, with its en-suite bathroom, occupies the ground floor, providing a direct view of the sea. Both units boast a private swimming pool and additional spaces for mechanical installations and storage. The layout by the Greek design practice ensures that all living spaces are spacious and well-ventilated, maximizing the natural light and the scenic views available. The careful positioning of these spaces not only enhances privacy but also integrates seamlessly with the hill’s natural contours.
