A temporary 50-metre land art installation by The Krank transforms a real trace of human intervention into an image of injury, care, and the possibility of healing.
A large red incision cuts across the ground, while oversized black stitches appear to hold its two sides together. The natural landscape is symbolically transformed into a human body, revealing a wound that is more than an artistic gesture.
Wound is a temporary, site-specific land art installation approximately 50 metres long, created by Greek visual artist The Krank in Erimitis, northeastern Corfu. Presented to the public on 26-27 September 2026, the work occupied one of the last major undeveloped coastal ecosystems in the area.

The location was not chosen at random. The installation was placed directly along a real trace left by bulldozers during construction works carried out in 2021 as part of a previous tourism development project. Rather than introducing an arbitrary form into the landscape, the red incision followed the path of an existing physical intervention, connecting the artistic gesture to the site’s history.
The black stitches introduce another layer of meaning. They do not erase the wound but attempt to hold its sides together, suggesting care, collective responsibility, and the possibility of healing. Members of the local community and the Save Erimitis initiative, which has campaigned for the protection of the area for years, participated in creating and positioning the stitches.

Erimitis is a distinctive Mediterranean ecosystem where woodland, coastal wetlands, and the sea coexist within an almost continuous undeveloped landscape. Although the previous development project was not completed, the area’s future remains uncertain.
The installation was conceived as entirely temporary. Following its public presentation, it was completely removed, with its materials retained for reuse in future artworks.
By transferring the familiar image of an injured body to the scale of the landscape, The Krank raises a question that extends beyond the boundaries of the installation itself: Can leaving a landscape intact be a form of development?
